Preparatory Intensive English Program (PIE)


The Preparatory Intensive Program (PIE) is an English language course offered by CMLHS. It provides a foundation course for international students about to embark on their undergraduate study. Also, it can be tailored to cater for specific needs of participants.

The program comprises reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar components. The teaching and learning sessions are carried out in our state-of-the-art multimedia language laboratories. In addition, the participants have the opportunity to do self-access language learning activities using the software available as well as other Internet resources in the laboratories.

As an added value, Community Excursion Program (CEP) is also in store for the participants. It exposes them to the various cultures and traditions of Malaysian life through trips to places of interest in the country such as the the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary and KLCC.

There are five levels in PIE program. Prior to entering the program, the participants will have to sit for the PIE placement test. This test is administered to determine their entry level to the program.

Levels in the Programme

Level 1: Basic English Language Skills
Level 2: Preparatory Intensive English 1 (Intermediate)
Level 3: Preparatory Intensive English 1 (Upper - Intermediate)
Level 4: Preparatory Intensive English 1 (Advanced)
Level 5: Preparatory Intensive English 1 (Proficient)


Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Acquire a wide range of English vocabulary,
  2. Apply accurate English grammatical rules and sentence structures in spoken & written communication,
  3. Develop effective listening & reading skills,
  4. Enhance fluency in speaking,
  5. Acquire relevant academic study skills,
  6. Integrate the international students into living in Malaysia
